Electric Pressure Washers

Posted on: September 24, 2011

There are numerous power washers and it is tough to determine which one to choose? This article will elaborate on Why to Choose an Electric Power Washer over the gas models. There have to be some great advantages to the electric models, but there has to be some disadvantages as well.  Certainly they come in a variety of sizes and styles, and that can certainly make a difference in the purpose for which they will be used.  With that in mind, take a look at the pros and cons of these units.

There are a number of advantages to the electric pressure washers:

  • If the model is to be used indoors, electric pressure washers are preferable because they don't emit any fumes like their gas or diesel counterparts.  This makes it excellent for use in hospitals, nursing homes, schools, hotels, and various types of commercial offices.
  • If noise is a concern, the electric models are generally much quieter than the gas models.
  • Even though gas washers are generally more powerful, the electric models can sustain the high pressure, high water flow rates, and high temperatures for the hot water models over a longer period of time – and without running out of gas.
  • Maintenance on the electric power washers is usually much easier than on the gas models, and they are usually easier to operate.
  • Weight is always a factor if the model has to be carried.  Cold water models are always lighter because they don't have the extra weight added by the heating element.
  • Many of the electric models also have more advanced technology, such as automatic shut off, multiple nozzles to attach that vary the force of the sprayers, and some even have an optional sandblasting kit.
  • There are also several models that offer either hot or cold water, which is great when there are various things that need to be cleaned.
  • The electric models are generally less expensive than the gas models.

In addition, there are also a few disadvantages to the electric models, giving the gas models somewhat of an edge.  These include:

  • The main disadvantage to the electric power washers is the power cord.  The operator is always tethered to the nearest power outlet making distance to the item to be cleaned a factor to consider.
  • Electric models don't provide quite as much power as their gas driven  counterparts.
  • There are a variety of models that have poor reviews from the customers.  Be sure to read the reviews because in general these are the cheapest models.

Electric power washers provide a great means of cleaning so many items around the home, the farm, or the office.  They have a number of advantages, and just a few disadvantages, making many of these models an excellent choice for a variety of these cleaning jobs.  There are several manufacturers that make these electric models, just be sure to purchase the right sized model for the job at hand.  They do a great job at a small cost.
